Searching for Mom has been sent off to be printed. It is now out of my hands. I expect the first copies to be available in July 2007.
The underlying story has remained constant throughout the process, but there are some changes that have taken place. I think all of the changes make for a better story.
One last minute change was that my publisher has decided that the book will sell better if it is part of a series. As an author, I felt the story was good enough to stand on its own, but publishers are more interested in book sales than what they are in good stories. The second book in the series should be available in September or October of 2007, though I do not have a hard deadline. The second book takes place about two years after Searching For Mom. It is the story a couple of characters in Searching For Mom that are mentioned, but not named. One of the characters, Nathan, has dreams of being a Bible character while his friend, Ben, is one of the most evil people in school. It is told from the point of view of a youth minister who is struggling to guide a youth that he feels is more committed to the Lord than he. Some of the other characters from Searching For Mom return in the second book. The theme of the book is to ask the question of what you are filling to give in order to follow your dream.
Searching For Mom is borderline Christian fiction, the still unnamed second book will fit squarely in the genre. The third book in the series will probably be more removed from the genre, but I have not gotten past the rough outline.
